To Me, 365 Days From Now
I write about my process and expectations for 2023 looking into it from today. From me, to me, I'll see you soon.
Yesterday you wrote about the past year that’s come and gone. Today, you’re going to write about the next, 2023. As someone who doesn’t think that they are guaranteed anything in life, especially time; you know that it’s the most valuable resource you have. It’s something that can’t be returned once passed. That being said, you have an idea of how you want to spend your time. Intentions are easy to forget, especially coming from a place of motivation rather than a disciplined approach. Motivation is fleeting, discipline is consistent. You have a few priorities in life you can pinpoint to where you want to spend your time. Health, business, and poker being those pillars.
First, health and fitness. It’s the most important thing to you. Now that fitness is a pillar in your life, keep the ball rolling. You’re going to exercise six times a week minimum at home base in Vegas, eating clean, and following the goals you want to achieve. Currently at 190 pounds, you want to get to 220 of lean muscle. It’s probably not going to be possible in a year, but that doesn’t actually matter. What matters to you is the process. The process of eating the way you’re supposed to, the discipline to show up to the gym even when you don’t feel like it, and having the vision over the long term on a day to day basis; one foot in front of the other. You’re going to come back to this in a year (here’s to hoping you’re still alive to see it) and not only be proud of the work you’ve put in, but shocked to see how far it took you, and how different you look and feel. You’re also going to cook as much as possible, with a minimal or near zero amount of Door Dashing for your meals.
You know it better than anyone else that you’re a serial Door Dasher, but cooking your own food has been much more rewarding (and less expensive). It’s a valuable skill-set, so keep working on it. Of course you’re not the best cook yet, but you’re pretty decent with a pan, butter, salt, and an air fryer. Knowing what you’re eating calorically and how it directly correlates to your goals has been a massive step in the right direction. Now that you’re in the phase where you’re trying to put on weight the right way, take the steps necessary to hit the long term goals. Take it slow, enjoy the ride, and keep it up. From you, to you, I’m proud of your efforts and discipline.
Now, let’s talk about your obligations for Solve For Why, as well as the podcast. The podcast performed better than you could have ever expected, and that’s a blessing. You showed up every day, with exceptions being for traveling and poker obligations. You’re going to improve your communication skills with the group, and maybe stop yelling as much. The group can only hope for that to be the case, at least.
Also, you’re going to hold yourself accountable from the coaching perspective. You’ve finished your two courses, and submitted finished products that you’re proud of. You’ve taken a bigger role in the company when it comes to business development, growth mechanics, and have become dependable to finish the tasks you accept and provide value. You’re growing up faster than you could have imagined, and you understand what you sign up for when you accept responsibility. All in all, you’ve performed better than your expectations, because you didn’t wait until the last minute, and took the appropriate steps to lead to success. Your actions and decisions impact more than yourself, and you understand that responsibility. Doing so allows your coworkers to be successful as well. You additionally held others accountable when necessary, as the business is a group project, whether you like it or not. Finally, let’s look at poker.
You already know that poker is not one of those things that you can control from a results perspective, but here’s what you did do this year. You played every high value spot that made logistical sense, while studying, learning, and improving. You stayed healthy, active, and present. You don’t know how the year as a whole is going to go, but you had a good feeling about how things were going to play out. There’s no personal expectations other than showing up and caring when you play. It’s easy to autopilot sometimes, but you’re going to keep that to a minimum. When you enter a tournament or even a cash game session online or live, that’s where you are. You can’t be anywhere else, so be in the moment, and enjoy it. You’ll be surprised with the results that come from next year.
All in all, you’re going to have an amazing 2023, and the current version of you is fortunate to be in your mind, body, and soul. I’m your best friend, and always will be. Make us proud, like I know you will. You’ll also finally have your license, so get to driving.
You are quite the narcissist 😂
